Memoirs Sample Essay

Memoirs Sample EssayA memoir is usually a piece of written prose that is very personal and details a person's life. The term usually applies to personal writings of two to five thousand words in length. There are some specific guidelines that should be followed for writing a memoir. Here is a sample essay from a few years ago. This sample essay is from a speech given by my husband after my mother passed away. It was just three years before she died and my speech was to my parents. I felt it was a lot more important than any of the other speeches my parents were going to give.I had been reading a book by my mother when I wrote this. The book was an autobiography of my father by his mother. I loved the book and thought it would be good for my speech. When I was writing my speech, I was thinking about my mother's book and how much her story had inspired me throughout my life. The book was a biography of my father and all of his life was very filled with people who influenced him. For exam ple, he was involved in the Civil Rights Movement in the South. My mother's book was all about my father's life and how it had influenced me. It was very powerful for me to read my mother's story because she was my parent's only child.I really wanted my speech to be a tribute to both my parents and their life and the character trait that they taught me. One of the things that made my mother's book so effective was the relationship that she had with her son. She never left him at home. They were always together all the time. The book had my dad living with my mother and my sisters. My dad grew up in a very bad family environment. He lived in fear for his life. As he was growing up, my mother was raising three children, one of whom she had left with my father.I decided to use this story because I was able to relate to my mother's book. I also decided that in addition to my mother's story, I would also include my father's story because he too had left my mother at home. Together we did not stop learning.
